HOW I MAKE MY VASES
I turned the plate of this vase on my pottery wheel. Once it had firmed up I trimmed the bottom. I then extruded tree tubes and with liquid clay slip, I attached them to the plate. To add some flair to the plain tubes I fluted at the tops of them. Then I put my handmade vase sculpture on my shelf with plastic around it so my pottery will dry slowly. Pottery shrinks while drying and drying them slowly prevents cracking and falling away. When it is bone dry I fire it in my electric kiln.
The next step was to dip this into this semi-transparent glaze and then fired it in my kiln at about 2900 degrees. The glaze went green in some places, leaving a clear glaze exposing the colour of the cream stoneware clay.
Ready to ship. I wrap my pottery in bubble wrap, then I pack it tightly in the box surrounding it with Styrofoam peanuts. If possible I use recyclable packing material to save them from going into the landfill.
