HOW I MAKE MY FRENCH BUTTER DISHES
I turned both pieces of this French butter dish on my pottery wheel with stoneware clay. The following day I trimmed the bottom of the outside piece and the top of the inside piece.
I then set my French butter dish under my plastic to dry it slowly for a couple of weeks before firing them in my electric kiln to a bisque finish of about 2300 degrees
For the final step I either dip it in a bucket of glaze or brush on 3 coats of glaze (the colour) and fire or bake it in my kiln to about 2900 degrees.
HOW TO USE A FRENCH BUTTER CROCK
Put about 1/4″ of cold water on the outside or bottom piece.
Stuff room temperature butter in the inside piece, up to about 1/4″ from the top.
Pack the butter in the base, upside down. Packing the butter into in the crock.
The water seals the edge of the butter holder, keeping it fresh.
Keep it on the counter, not the fridge.
Change the water about every 3 days.
It does not work with margarine or ghee.
