HOW I MAKE MY VASES
I rolled black stoneware clay and then cut out the three sides with my vase template. I let them firm up until they were stiff enough to stand up. With liquid slip fixed the sides together and put on a bottom. With white clay, I cut out the chrysanthemum-shaped flowers and with liquid clay slip, I put the flowers on all three sides of the vase.
I put my newly made vase on my shelf with plastic around it so my pottery will dry slowly. Slow drying prevents the seams from cracking and breaking apart. Once it is bone dry I fired it in my electric kiln at about 2300 degrees.
The next step was to dip this into my clear glaze and then fired it in my kiln at about 2900 degrees.
Ready to ship. I wrap my pottery in bubble wrap, then I pack it tightly in the box surrounding it with Styrofoam peanuts. If possible I use recyclable packing material to save them from going into the landfill.
