To make this tray I rolled out stoneware clay into a silicon leave mould which I made from a hosta leaf. With more clay, I sculpted a cardinal bird and attached him to the leaf. Once he had dried to bone-dry, I painted the bird with underglaze paints.
I fired it in my electric kiln to bisque ware to about 2300 degrees for several hours. I glazed the leaf in forest green and put a clear glaze over the birds. He was then fired in my kiln to about 2900 degrees with many other pieces.
