Strawberry Season
What’s the most delicious thing you’ve ever eaten?
Summer is short in Canada. Therefore, I enjoy the outdoors and spend very little time in my pottery studio. As a result, I haven’t made any pottery to show you. Instead, I will answer todays WordPress daily prompt question.
This is a hard question to answer. Food is delicious. My mother was a great cook and tried the latest food going. I grew up tasting international foods. I have also traveled to many countries and my motto is to try their food. Needless to say, it is hard for me to pick my favorite.
It is easier for me to mention my least favorite food, green beens hands down.
I have narrowed it down to 3 delicious foods. Watermellon, strawberries with whipcream, and chocolate. Not together, and not just any type.
Horticulturist have GMOed the flavor out of watermellons by breading the natural big black seeds out. People don’t like the seeds. As a child, it was a contest to see how far we could spit the seeds. Outside often at picnics, of course. Give me a long garden grown watermellon with black seeds any summer day. I once heard that a child looked at a picture of a watermellon with the seeds and asked if those were ants. How sad that the younger generation doesn’t know about real watermellons.

Strawberries fall into the same category as watermellon, GMO. GMO stands for genetically modified. Again, going back to my childhood, strawberries grew for only a few weeks starting just before Father’s Day in June. If you didn’t get them in season, you missed out. Now, you can pick or buy Ontario strawberries to the end of July. Fresh picked are still the most delicious strawberries, compared to store bought ones, with whipcream.

I make berry bowls, which keep strawberries fresher and sell them on my Etsy shop. Click the link to one of them. https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/1179145444/ceramic-berry-bowl-handmade-berry-bowl
I also like chocolate. Not just any kind. Like the watermellon and strawberries, I am specific about chocolate’s flavor. Dark chocolate 95% is my favorite. I also like it flavored with orange, mint, raspberry, or strawberry. As long as it 75% or higher dark, I’ll take it. Lindt is my favorite brand, too. Other brands are less expensive, but you get what you paid for and can be hit and miss on the flavor.
While on a cruise down The Rhine River, our ship docked beside a Lindt chocolate factory. There were more flavors of the dark chocolate bars than we had at home. I stocked up.
Occasionally, I’ll have a chocolate bar, especially if it is a Flake bar. The first time I had a Flake was while touring the Canbury Chocolate factory in England in 1994. It took another 20 years or so before I saw them in our stores in Canada.
These are my favorite foods. What are yours?

My pottery journey, my passion, didn’t start until my 40’s. Creating pottery is my happy place, especially decorating, vases, cups, bowls, trays, and creating sculptures. The more I create, the more my imagination is spurred on. I will be sharing how I make pottery here.
